Divine Manifestation
Divine Manifestation is a new volume dedicated to artist Meena Sansanwal and her evolving body of work created between 2016 and 2025. The publication brings together paintings and sculptural works that invite viewers into an inner world where the feminine form, divinity, and imagination come together as one.
The foreword describes Sansanwal’s practice as rooted in deep inner reflection, where emotions, memories, and dreams transform into symbolic forms and richly patterned compositions. Throughout the works, the woman appears as a cosmic figure holding within her the energies of nature and the universe, expressed through vibrant colour, symmetry, and flowing forms. Horses and owls emerge as recurring motifs and “gentle guides,” associated in the publication with intuition, freedom, protection, and inner vision.
A key feature of the book is the essay Feminine Cosmologies: The Divine and the Fantastical in the Art of Meena Sansanwal by curator Sanya Malik, Curator and Director at Black Cube Gallery. The essay frames Sansanwal’s artistic universe as an intricate cosmology where the female form, the divine, and the fantastical are not merely subjects but living energies, and where symbolism becomes a “theatre of the mind” shaped by transformation and union. It also highlights how Sansanwal’s use of symmetry, reflection, and overlapping forms suggests multiplicity as a condition of existence, while her masks function as portals through which emotions and spiritual energies shift into visual allegory.
