Major in Computer Science
-
As we are stepping into the 21st century, computers have
achieved a paramount importance in all aspects of modern society
and thereby have lead to a worldwide shortage of skilled
computer professionals. Keeping this aspect in mind,
Stamford International University has developed this
undergraduate degree program which is aimed at preparing the
students for professional careers or postgraduate studies. This
program is designed to provide the students with a sound
foundation that will keep them up to date with the latest trends
of Information Technology and to prepare the students to enter
into the rapidly expanding computer field. The computer science curriculum is comprised of sound
preparation in Mathematics, Fundamentals of Electronics,
English, Statistics and Computing.
The theory
courses are concerned with abstract notions of computing that
are, for the most part, independent of any specific computing
technology. Topics also include the design of efficient
algorithms and the analysis also computational requirements of
any algorithm solving a particular problem.
Courses in
the system area are concerned with the architecture of
computer systems and with the design and implementation of
computer systems software, such as operating systems and
compilers. In contrast to theory courses, where students who
do no actual programming, an important component of learning
the systems area is implementation. Courses in this area give
the student better understanding of the technological
implementations of computers.
Courses in
the application area deal with computers as tools to solve
problems. Examples of topics in this area are developing
software using programming languages, artificial intelligence
and robotics, computer graphics and relational databases.
