SIU's
International School of Tourism and Hospitality
Management offers a program leading to the MA degree
with a concentration in International Hotel and
Tourism Management, intended for those wishing to
better their chances for advancement in their present
occupation or to shift their interest to this
expanding field. In either case an advanced degree in
international hotel management will increase
opportunities in the competitive area of upper
management and provide the qualifications necessary
for university level teaching.
Designed specifically for students who have already
completed a course of study in fields both related and
unrelated to hotel management, this MA degree program
may be completed during one academic year (two
semesters and one summer session) at SIU's
London
campus. Those students who experience problems with
their command of English may need extra sessions to
complete the program. The level of competency in
English is tested at the start of the program.
Admission Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree or its equivalent. No particular
field of undergraduate specialization is required, but
a year of undergraduate mathematics is strongly
advised.
Graduation Requirements:
In addition to the
requirements for all graduate students candidates for
this degree must complete the following:
-
A
minimum of 45 semester credits at the graduate
level, composed of the courses listed below or
substitutes approved by the Program Advisor.
-
A
final comprehensive examination or, subject to the
decision of the Program Advisor, a thesis requiring
a formal oral defense in lieu of the comprehensive
examination. The thesis is in addition to the 45
credit hour requirement.
