In an era of
increasing competition and increasingly demanding
customers, the task of gaining and retaining
customers is a central business activity. The
marketing function is concerned with identifying,
anticipating and meeting customer needs and
requirements.
This programme has been designed and updated in
response to the demand for marketing
professionals who are well qualified and trained.
Contemporary marketeers are expected to have a
high level of commercial understanding and skill
that they can successfully apply to different
market situations and operating environments. The
Marketing Institute of Ireland (MII) is the
leading body for the marketing profession and the
marketing programme at Portobello College grants
graduate membership with the MII on successful
completion of the course.
Successful learning on the marketing programme
will result in the student’s awareness of their
intellectual and personal development. Students
will be encouraged to reflect on what, why and
how they are learning and will understand their
own strengths, weaknesses, values and aims.
Students on this programme of study will have the
opportunity to develop a variety of cognitive,
practical and social skills that will enhance
both their employability and capacity for post
graduate study.
What can I do when I graduate?
In order to progress to further study you will
need to achieve 60 credits and a GPA of 2.0 in
your final examinations to progress onto the MSc
in International Business. This qualification may
entitle you to transfer to programmes leading to
Higher Diploma (level 8) or programmes leading to
Masters Degree or Post-graduate Diploma (level 9)
at other Irish and international universities and
colleges.
Career Opportunities
The marketing degree at Portobello College
prepares students for careers in a wide variety
of general business roles and also for specific
marketing positions such as sales, market
research, public relations, advertising, direct
marketing, brand management and category
management.
