Accounting plays a
major role in all organisations, whether profit,
or not-for-profit, public or private sector
organisations. Our programme explores the way in
which accounting informs decisions in
organisations and the impact which the use of
accounting information systems can have on
various aspects of organisational life. A study
of accounting within its organisational context
is central to the accounting degree at Portobello
College. The aims of this programme involve two
main strands – a command of the techniques of
financial accounting, management accounting and
financial management and a critical approach to
their uses and limitations. The learning outcomes
of this programme include the opportunity to
achieve and demonstrate competencies such as an
ability to engage in critical evaluation of
arguments and evidence. They will learn to
analyse, interpret and manipulate data in pursuit
of solutions to complex business problems.
What can I do when I graduate?
The Association of Chartered Certified
Accountants (ACCA) have granted our Accounting &
Finance students exemption from Level Two in its
entirety.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants have
granted our Accounting & Finance students
exemption from Professional Two in its entirety.
Students must achieve an overall grade of 2.2
honours level or better.
This qualification may entitle you to transfer to
programmes leading to Higher Diploma (level 8) or
programmes leading to Masters Degree or
Post-graduate Diploma (level 9) at other Irish
and international universities and colleges.
Careers Opportunities
The primary objective of the programme is to
produce graduates who are technically and
intellectually competent, ethically conscious
professionals and self-confident, to pursue
careers in accounting, taxation and financial
services.
