Customs

Foreigners entering France you may import goods purchased or received as a gift in another country without making any declaration or paying any duty, provided the value does not exceed 1,200 F (600 F if the traveller is under 15 years of age). Duty free limits for tobacco, alcoholic beverages, coffee, tea, and perfume should be verified before travel.

Personal Effects


Students may bring personal possessions into France, but some goods are restricted.. These include live animals, certain medication (except those for personal use), firearms, and products made from protected species.

Students may import duty free the personal goods required for their studies and a normal allotment of furniture for one bedroom.
The duty-free allowance may be used once every school year, upon submission of the following documents:
- a certificate of education
- two copies of a detailed inventory with estimated values, dated and signed
- attestation from the head of the institution indicating the date on which courses start;
- a form (CERFA no. 10070*01) for high-value moveable items
The French Customs will return a certified copy of the inventory.

Vehicles

Under the temporary admission system, students may import a personal vehicle for the duration of their studies, subject to certain conditions. It is also possible to purchase a vehicle in France tax free, subject to certain conditions.
