Master of Business Studies (MBS)

Awarding Body: Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU)

Duration: 12 months

The Master of Business Studies is an innovative course designed for business graduates. The aim of the course is to endow students with a well-developed understanding of international business and the appropriate knowledge and skills in order to secure management positions in Ireland and internationally.

Participants will develop analytical abilities as well as essential managerial skills such as team working, leadership and effective communications. An ability to interpret data is also developed through modules such as Managing Finance and Managing Operations. Essential underpinning and skills are provided for both academic and business research in support of the dissertation.

Programme Structure

The programme is structured in two sequential stages. Stage 1 contains eight core modules and the Masters stage (Stage 2) comprises the dissertation. If four modules are completed a certificate award can be granted and if eight modules are obtained a diploma award can be granted.

For part-time students, delivery of the programme is structured over four semesters with two modules in each semester. During each semester, students are normally required to attend lectures on two evenings per week and occasional weekend workshops.

Assessment

Students are assessed via a wide range of methods in order to ensure the development of an extensive range of abilities and skills over the duration of the programme. These methods include management reports, case studies, individual and group coursework, presentations, time constrained assessments, development of business plans based on case studies, production of a personal development portfolio and a dissertation.

Skills Development

Students are expected to develop analytical abilities as well as essential managerial skills such as team working, leadership and effective communication skills.
As part of our learning philosophy, we encourage our students to learn through reflection on practice and experience.
