Post Graduate
Programs
Master of Arts (MA) in
Human Resource Management
Awarding Body:
Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU)
Duration: 12 months
The programme aims to
provide an academically rigorous framework
through which students understand and critically
appraise the philosophy and practice of HRM; as
well as developing awareness of the business and
strategic content of HRM and the role of the HRM
practitioner as a business partner.
The MA in Human Resource Management has been
designed to equip graduates with a detailed
understanding of the contribution of specific HRM
activities to an overall HRM strategy, and the
role of HRM within corporate strategy.
A practitioner focus is central to this
programme. Industry-led workshops and guest
lectures, together with a strong emphasis on the
importance of HRM as a critical strategic part of
the firm are heavily emphasised.
Programme Structure
The programme
consists of eight 15-credit modules followed by a
60-credit HRM dissertation. Modules in the first
part of the programme provide a conceptual
understanding of disciplines that underpin
successful HRM strategy and practice. These are
followed by modules relating to HR specialisms,
their integration in HRM activities plus a
dissertation of a HRM topic.
For part-time students, delivery of the programme
is structured over 4 taught semesters. During
each semester, students will study two modules
and are typically required to attend lectures on
two evenings per week and occasional weekend
workshops.
Skills Development
Students are expected
to develop analytical abilities as well as
essential managerial skills such as team working,
leadership and effective communication skills.
As part of our
learning philosophy, we encourage our students to
learn through reflection on practice and
experience.
