Foundation Degree in Digital Media (Validated by University of Wales)

With a Foundation Degree, you can go further. Because they link with at least one Honours Degree in the same subject area, you can aim for a full BA (Hons) qualification, or head straight on to your chosen career. You also qualify for credits if you've worked in parts of the industry relevant to your degree.

Course Content

Year 1: The Foundation Degree in Digital Media at Cavendish College, in the first year provides students with the opportunity to specialise in one of Six pathways:

  • Computer Graphics

  • Multimedia Design

  • Web Design

  • Computer Animation

  • Computer Visualisation

  • Time-Based Media (Film, Video & Digital Media)

What next?
On completion of the Foundation Degree, the student should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the critical and theoretical contexts within which practice is located.
  • Consolidate and extend their visual communication skills.
  • Use a systematic approach to research and design, formulate and manage plans of action through the various stages from inception to completion, which demonstrates their individual capability and level of achievement.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the synthesis between theory and practice within design through a range of solutions to their own, as well as to industrial/commercial briefs.
  • Demonstrate an increased competence in using a variety of media and extended techniques appropriately to the solution of selected assignments.
  • Apply creative thinking effectively to problem solving with due regard to the constraints of time, cost, commercial requirements, and resources.
  • Demonstrate competence in self-critical and critical evaluation of others work.
  • Demonstrate personal and professional skills in preparation for a university honours degree/career opportunities.

Entry requirements

Applicants will be admitted to the course on the basis of the following criteria:

  • 12th class (10+2) with good grades
