Postgraduate Diploma in Fashion Marketing and Merchandising 

The course is designed to develop professionals for careers in fashion retail and wholesale marketing and merchandising.

The context of fashion retailing and wholesaling is understood from the product, customer and supplier perspectives. The course develops skills to operate within these practices.

Future prospects
Graduates can make direct entry into employment in marketing, merchandising and buying, retail and management sectors of the fashion industry. It also provides a sound foundation for progress to a masters programme of study.

Study programme
Scheduled over one academic year, to include a short work placement where appropriate and possible.

A balance of contact seminars, lectures and tutorials of between 15-18 hours a week over 3 terms. This is combined with independent study.

Term 1

  • Concepts of fashion marketing and merchandising

  • Market research methodologies and analysis

  • Fashion Forecasting

  • Consumer theory

  • Fashion Illustration

Term 2

  • Professional industry marketing and merchandising practices in the retail/wholesale environment

  • Critical evaluation of practical, visual and financial analysis

  • Business ethics and best practice

  • Fashion logistics and supply chain management 1

Term 3

  • Fashion logistics and supply chain management 2

  • Individual research project

  • Work placement (where available) or work research project.

Entry requirements

Applicants will be admitted to the course on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Individuals who have previous experience of fashion design, fashion marketing or fashion business and retail, either in an educational background or work experience.  Entrance will be judged on an individual basis, but a good command of written English is essential, IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.
